SDCA Welcomes 1, 400 College Students

St. Dominic Colllege of Asia welcomed 1, 400 new students from various programs on the Pasalubong 2018.

  It has been two years since SDCA conducted Pasalubong due to the K-12 program implementation in 2016. The charming and energetic character of SDCA, Nico Dominic, leads the welcoming of new Dominicans as they enter the campus.

  The highlight of the event was the annual pinning ceremony and giving of Pasalubong letters made by the batch 2018, handed by the college senior students.

  Pasalubong comes from the word “Pasa” which means to hand over and “Salubong” which means to welcome.

Acad Orgs Battle in SDCAlympics

Dominicans once again light up the spirit of sportsmanship as SDCAlympics 2016 was officially opened, March 4, at St. Dominic College of Asia (SDCA) school grounds.


Students, players and as well as spectators from different departments attended the opening ceremony which was started by the flag raising led by SDCA’s Tagintinig Representatives and athletes from the Purple Aztecs, Blue Spartans, White Crusaders, and Orange Paladins also joined the parade of athletes, giving pride to their respective departments along with their Mr. And Ms. Fresh Face 2016 representatives.

The members of the Student Leaders Council spearheaded the lighting ceremony which marked the opening of SDCA’s intramurals and was followed by the message given by SDCA’s president Dr. Gregorio A. Andaman Jr. and as Mr. Jonathan Velustrua Sta. Ana, the Students Affairs and Services Director, presented the mechanics, he also quoted that “the games will not define you, but rather it is how you played the game.”

Different intermission numbers from each department showcasing the talents of the Dominicans were also presented during the opening ceremony and was followed ny the Oath of Sportsmanship led by Pol Angel Delos Santos, the Most Valuable Player of SDCAlympics 2016.

A new sport in the institution also took part in the event as the Dominican Taekwondo Jins showcased the sport’s discipline and practices in this Korean martial art.

Cielo Marie Salibio and Diego Miguel Casil of the Orange Paladins were hailed as the winners of Mr. and Ms. Fresh Face 2016 giving points to their respective academic organizations.

The opening ceremony was concluded by First Friday mass held at the Café Al Fresco Hall.

Dominicans Join Indoor Games

Different accredited student organizations fired up the indoor games even in this years’ SDCAlympics, held at Dominican Learning Resource Center (DLRC), Mar. 4.


Young Executives Society’s (YES) Francheska Fabro and Ryan Christopher Morada of YES was both declared as this year’s Chess champions. Fabro was successfully defended her title as the last year’s champion, while Morada regained his title after falling 2nd place last year. Following them on second place was Lileth Agustin of Red Concepts and James Baria of Association of Computer Talents (ACTS) Arbie Joy Talam of Association of Dominican Communicators (ADC) and CerDenea Ortega of LaboratoriumDuces (LD) was ranked 3rd in this Match

Sungka
YES dominated again another indoor game which is the Sungka. Kathrina Toledo and John Lester Ricamara both reigned supreme in men and women’s division. While following them on second place were Nympha Mae Jimenez of ACTS and Sean Angelo Sugue of Pharmacy Collegiate Council (PCC). Lastly on the 3rd place was won by Jasmine Mandita of Global Educators’ Guild (GEG) and Christian Yabut (Junior Tourism Travelers Council)

Darts
The battle for the Championship of Darts even in Men’s Division was between Nico Borrinaga of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants and Charles Uy (JPIA) of YES in which Borrinaga snatched the Championship leaving Uy in the second place spot. The third place spot was then taken by the Alliance of Future Hospitality Managers (AFHM) bet, Kenneth Estolano, The women’s division championship title was clinched by Fatima Joy Dessera if St. Dominic College if Asia Radiologic Technology Society (SDCARTS), followed by the2nd place, Angela Patricia Banila of Nursing Student Council and Arriane Austria of Red Concepts got the 3rd place.

Domino
It was lucky hand for REACH PT Society representative, Ardeson Resari as he was hailed as the champion in the men’s Division of Domino. Second on his rank was the PCC’s player, Benjamin Bumkeng and qualifying for the 3rd ranks is LD’s player, Albert Caudillo. While in the women’s division, the ACTS player, Justine Raboy sealed the match by winning the championship, beating Glenda Dauda of GEG who won second place and Psychology Society’s representative, Carmela Consul Finished 3rd.

Games of the General
JPIA retained their title in the Games of Generals as Daisee Ann Herrera and JherickBarce led the championship away from their opponent. The second placers were Justine Espiritu of ACTS and Aila Paladin of JTTC. Mary June Semilla of LD and Jersey Ann Go of PCC were upheld as the 3rd placers.

Scrabble
Scribblers from the REACH PT and AFHM outwitted the other academic organization representatives as they conquered the board during the scrabble event. Jasmin Lobrio won the championship in the women’s division against JPIA’s Nympha Mae Binasaoy who fell on the 2nd place, while Rubielyn Mae Acosta of the GEG landed on the 3rd place. Earl Jan Sabido conquered the men’s division and successfully held the championship title where John Richard Suzara of YES landed on second place and PCC’s WynzeMallabo was placed on the 3rd spot.

Table Tennis (BMLS Smashes back-to-back title in Table Tennis)
Paddlers from LaboratoriumDuces (Men’s Division) and Association of Computer Talents and Specialists (Women’s Division) reigned as champion in the Table Tennis match.

In Men’s Division, it was a back-to-back victory for Aaron Policarpio from Laboratorium Dices against the 2nd place, Jan Michael Canave of REACH PT and Red Concepts’ Christian Mendoza who was hailed as the 3rd place.

The outpower performance by Angel Manalo from the Association of Computer Talents and Specialists in the women’s division dominated the championship title. While, the 2nd place was taken by Rengian Cantillas of the Global Educators’ Guild, and Louise Navarro of Psychology Society who captured the 3rd spot. The game was facilitated by Ms. Alexandra Pamela A. Panis, Alumni Officer.

Education captures the Championship

Global Educators Guild (GEG) outshined other courses including the 4 time defending champions Junior Philippine Institute of Accountancy (JPIA) as they were hailed as this year’s Champion of Kulayawan 2016 at SM Molino, March 5.


Students from GEG surprised the audiences and left a standing ovation from the judges in this year’s theme “Panagbenga Festival” of Baguio City. Colorful costumes, flower formation with real-flying butterflies highlighted their winning performance, Dance group from LaboratoriunDuces declared as the 2nd place and Best in Costume while JPIA, ranked 3rd place. Young Executives Society (YES) got a nerve as they declared 4th placer of the event. The 5th place was awarded to Association of Dominican Communicators (ADC) for their amazing dance piece

It was also a back-to-back victory for the Education department as they surpassed the talent show for the institution’s faculty, That’s my Mentor. Prof. Romeo Gonzalvo Jr., a professor in Education got a standing ovation performance after he stunned the audience on his sing and dance rendition of “Mang Jose” winning the second place is the Burlesque performance of Prof. Jonna Tacsay, representing the LaboratoriumDuces. Completing the winners is Prof. Arvin Balquin from BSIT’s organization, Association of Computer Talents and Specialists.

Duterte heads for resounding victory

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte headed for decisive victory in presidential race.


Philippines’ president elect Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to start hanging murderers, rapists and drug dealers after winning a landslide victory at the polls with his ruthless “war on crime” platform. The 71-year-old tough talking mayor of Davao City, is set to clinch the presidency after earning more than 16 million votes in the recent elections. Duterte, who has an unbeatable lead in unofficial tallies in the country’s presidential race, will push to rewrite the constitution and change to a federal system of government, his spokesman has said. “You will feel more and more alone the longer you’re there. You will have more and more complex problems that have to be dealt with, and the public will say yesterday”, President Aquino said in an interview with CNN when asked about his advice to successor, aired last May 11.

“But at the end of the day, I guess if you are focused on our people and people and show you have trust in God, you will get to where you want to go”, Aquino added. Duterte, the firebrand politician who promised a strong anti-crime drive and charter change on economic provisions, will formally take over the reins of Malacañan by noon of June 30. The camp of the Duterte earlier said the inauguration ceremony would be simple and frugal. According to the Commission on Elections, results of the elections are expected to be done by the end of the month.

The Central College Student Council (CCSC) in partnership with the Community Outreach and Extension Office and Human Resource Department of Education (DepEd), last June 2 at Sangley Point National High School, Cavite City.


Over the years, the BrigadaEskwela has been extended to a week-long clean up drive in participation of the stakeholders of education such as students, teachers, parents, school officials, local government officials, local government officials, and private sectors. With the theme: “Tayo Para saPaaralangLigtas, Maayos, at HandaMula Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School”, DepEd aims to unite the community to ensure a better future for the next generation. The volunteers helped in cleaning the school premises, repairing armchairs and repainting the classrooms so that it will be ready before the classes formally start on June 13. Members of the Global Educators Guild also volunteered to help in the cleanup drive in Niog Elementary School last June 1. Student lears, alumni employees, faculty members, and administrators actively participated the annual community outreach event.

SDCA offers Free Kids’ Haircut

St. Dominic College of Asia through the Central College Student Council organized the annual Gupit Para sa Paslit project last June 20 at SDCA Pinagbuklod Kindergarten School.


In coordination with Prof. Ronal Tomines, Community and Outreach and Extension Officer, this years’ free haircut served 48 kindergarten pupils. Hairstylists from Edwin Samot Salon namely Jason Estole, Crispin Velasco and Jhem Hernandez devoted their time and skills to serve others. SDCA alumni donated funds to facilitate the said event. Gupit para sa Paslit already served 136 kids since it was started on 2014 with 75 kids, 2015 with 21 kids and this year with 48 kids. This non-structured community outreach program is part of CCSC’s commitment to the community. Mr. Rico J. Ramas, CCSC immediate past president, served as the chairman of the event.

SDCA joins Kalayaan 2016

Student ambassadors and leaders of St. Dominic College of Asia attended the celebration of the 118th Philippine Independence Day, June 12 at SM City Molino Grounds.


“Pagkakaisa, Pagaambagan, Pagsulong” served as the theme of the Philippine Independence Day 2016. The program started with a prayer followed by the flag raising ceremony led by a marching band. Cultural dance and song numbers were performed during the event. Local government officials and mall administrators also graced the occasion. Wearing their Filipiniana costume, the winners of Mr. and Ms. SDCA Ambassadors of Goodwill 2016 joined the parade which aims to promote Philippine culture through the native Barong Tagalog and Baro’tSaya.
