MASTER IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

The Master in English Language Teaching (MELT) program is designed to develop highly competent and reflective English language educators, scholars, and curriculum leaders who are equipped with advanced pedagogical, linguistic, and research skills. This program prepares graduate students to critically analyze and address issues in English language teaching (ELT), curriculum design, assessment, and educational policy, with a strong grounding in linguistic principles and sociocultural contexts of language learning. It also cultivates research-driven innovation in instructional strategies that respond to the evolving needs of learners in diverse educational settings.


Program Rationale:

The Master of English Language Teaching is a strategic move for St. Dominic College of Asia to address a global demand for qualified educators capable of teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL). This program also gives opportunity to offer Dominican Educational Values for Professional Teachers, a course unique to SDCA that is designed to deepen educators’ understanding and application of Dominican-inspired educational values as universal principles for professional teaching practice.

PROGRAM EDUCATION OBJECTIVES (PEO)

By the level of outcome or competency, Masters programs are aligned with level 7 of the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF). PQF Level 7 descriptors demand the following from graduates of Master in English Language Teaching:

  1. Advance knowledge and skills in a specialize, interdisciplinary, or multidisciplinary field of study for professional practice; 
  2. Develop expertise in self-directed research;
  3. Thrive in the environment of lifelong learning with highly substantial degree of independence, that involves individual work or teams of interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary experts; and 
  4. Apply the above-mentioned skills in research, professional, or creative work.
