Lianne Marie Marcuelo, a 4th-year BA Communication student, has brought pride to the SDCA academic community after winning Best Student Presenter at the 11th World Media Conference on Media and Mass Communication (MEDCOM 2026). The prestigious international conference was held in Bali, Indonesia, on March 24, 2026.

Marcuelo presented their undergraduate thesis titled “Awareness, Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of the Selected Residents of Brgy. Capipisa on Solid Waste Management: Basis for Communication Plan.” The study demonstrates how community environmental problems can be solved through effective communication, which helps the residents understand proper solid waste disposal methods.

The research assesses residents’ understanding of waste management programs because it helps develop targeted communication strategies for waste management initiatives. Through this work, Marcuelo showed how environmental communication should be operated at the community level because it helps people develop sustainable practices while building environmental awareness.

The recognition not only celebrates Lianne Marie Marcuelo’s academic excellence but also her groupmates, Calista Mae Ramos, Ronjay Frederick Casalla, Andre Rommel Amper, and Jenard Sordilla Jr., who worked with her to complete this study that emphasizes how communication research helps solve environmental problems that exist in the world.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for both the student and the institution, as it demonstrates the worldwide research competitiveness of the BA Communication research work.

The World Conference on Media and Mass Communication (MEDCOM) is a globally recognized academic gathering that serves as a premier platform for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and media professionals to engage in meaningful discourse around the evolving landscape of media and communication.
