Background

On 18th May 2007, Imelda Argel & Associates signed an Agent Agreement with South Western Sydney Institute TAFE NSW to explore long term and sustainable educational partnership (offshore) with the Philippines market to offer high quality TAFE NSW program to local Filipino citizens to improve pathways for tertiary study and employment opportunities. SWSI TAFE NSW will be the first Australian VET provider to this market, and is now perceived as a pioneer in VET delivery programs for the Philippines.

Elizar Franco( TAFE SWSI International Consultant) has been the driver for the TAFE NSW SWSI educational cooperation to the Philippines, and working with the Attorney Imelda Argel(SWSI Agent) has been working dynamically in fostering strategic relationships and representing the interests of TAFE NSW SWSI in the Philippines, and has sourced several credible, respected and well established Filipino Institutes for the educational partnership for which St Dominic’s College (Cavite Philippines) is an example. Ms Argel is a well respected Lawyer and a Migration Agent in Sydney with highly credible business network.

To coincide with the Filipino President’s visit during the APEC Forum, Ms Argel (SWSI Agent) and several Filipino organisations have organised the 5th Global Filipino Networking Convention. During this convention, which was attended by the Mayor of Blacktown (Leo Kelly) and key Stakeholders of the Filipino/ Australian business and community Leaders, St Dominic’s College signed the MOU with TAFE NSW SWSI.

On 10 September 2007, bilateral discussions were held between TAFE NSW SWSI, DET International and St Dominic’s College which led to the final signing of the educational cooperation agreement on 14 September 2007 by TAFE NSW SWSI Institute Director, Garry Browne and the President of St Dominic College,Marita A. St Dominic Profile

St Dominic’s College is a privately owned tertiary Institution that commenced operation in 2003 in Cavite Philippines. Prior to this, St Dominic’s College run a successful medical hospital and resort/hotel for over 15 years. These properties are well integrated into the delivery of high quality tertiary courses (Bachelor’s level) in Nursing, Community Welfare, Hotel Management, IT, Business. At present, the College has a total enrolment of over 2,000 students. St Dominic’s has the required Filipino registration both for Tertiary education and TVET education.

Program Time Frame.

The Program will be rolled over a 3 year period with intakes of minimum intake of 60 students per Program. The initial program is planned to commence in June 2008.
